"The prices are reasonable, and the local dishes are simply delicious—my friends and I were all thoroughly satisfied. I absolutely fell in love with their ikan asam pedas, which boasts a rich, smoky flavour. Their telur dadar, curry chicken, and other fried dishes are also delightful. On lucky days, you might find fried sotong besar on the menu—juicy, tender, and absolutely worth trying! The only downside? If you visit on a scorching hot day, be prepared to sweat like ice under the sun!"

"I had never tried Johor-style Assam Pedas before, and I must say it is quite different from the Melaka version I am used to. This place specialises in Assam Pedas, though they also offer side dishes like fried chicken, fish, prawns and eggs. Interestingly, I noticed there were no vegetables on the menu — unless I missed them. What stood out immediately was their commitment to freshness. The fish is delivered daily, and by noon they had a beautiful red snapper ready. I could not resist, so I paired it with a plate of fried prawns and eggs. The moment I dug into the snapper, I was blown away. The flesh was snowy white, still steaming, and so fresh it felt as if it had just been pulled out of the sea and straight into the pot. That first bite was incredible — delicate, juicy, and unbelievably good. The Assam Pedas itself was not overly spicy or tangy compared to the Melaka version, but the freshness of the fish made it a completely different experience altogether. The prawns were another highlight. Simply fried with salt and turmeric, yet their natural sweetness and freshness took centre stage. Sometimes less really is more. Prices were reasonable too, which made the whole experience even better. Honestly, I could not help but feel a little envious of the locals who get to enjoy this quality of food on a daily basis. I will definitely be back to Muar to explore more hidden gems like this."

"Sedap! 7.9/10 **Asam pedas** is a classic Southeast Asian dish, especially popular in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. The name literally means **“sour and spicy”**, which perfectly describes its bold flavor profile. This dish is typically made with fish—most commonly mackerel, stingray, or red snapper—though other proteins can also be used. The broth is what defines asam pedas: a vibrant, tangy gravy created from tamarind, chilies, aromatics, and spices. The sourness in asam pedas comes mainly from **tamarind pulp**, which gives the dish its refreshing, appetizing tang. This sour note is balanced by heat from dried or fresh red chilies, lending a spicy kick that varies based on regional styles and personal taste. The spice paste often includes ingredients such as **shallots, garlic, ginger, galangal, turmeric, and belacan (shrimp paste)**, all blended and sautéed to develop deep, complex flavors. Vegetables like okra, tomatoes, and eggplant are commonly added to enhance texture and absorb the flavorful broth. In Malay-style asam pedas, the gravy tends to be thicker and more robust, while Indonesian versions—particularly from Sumatra—may be lighter but equally punchy. Asam pedas is typically served with **steamed rice**, allowing the rich, sour-spicy broth to shine as the centerpiece of the meal. It is loved for its comforting yet invigorating taste, combining heat, tanginess, and aromatic spices in a harmonious balance. Overall, asam pedas is a beloved traditional dish that showcases the depth and diversity of Malay and Indonesian culinary heritage."

"25/5/25 I've been here more times than I can count using all of my fingers. However, their "Asam Pedas" is in a different style, not as thick, and the flavours are milder than the one our mother used to cook at home. The only thing that stands out is the type of fish they had, which included red snapper, seabass, and many other varieties and was totally fresh. The prices are reasonable for fresh fish, and the deep fried fish is maybe another reason why customers visit these establishments. There is plenty of parking for your car, they are open until 10 p.m., and avoid coming during lunch, especially on weekends. This restaurant is self-service. I can say they have a nice assortment of fresh fish, but their "Asam Pedas" is a milder version. Don't arrive with great expectations when you dine here, instead, keep them to a minimum so you don't feel disappointed."
